Edison, who spent winters in a home he built on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River, invented the light bulb, so it’s fitting that the month culminates with a lighted night parade on Saturday, February 18 at 7pm in Downtown Fort Myers!

Lynn Hall Memorial Park
This is the main public beach on Fort Myers Beach, located next to Times Square. It features a playground, fishing pier, picnic huts, grills, an information kiosk, shops, and restaurants.

Bowditch Point Regional Park
You’ll Find unspoiled, natural Florida beach area wrapping around the Gulf of Mexico and the Bay. Dolphins love to play at the North tip of the island around sunset. Features restrooms, showers, grills, hiking paths, and a pavilion.

Bunche Beach
A long, narrow strip of sand stretching from South of the Sanibel Causeway to behind Fort Myers Beach. With small waves and shallow water depths, this is a popular spot for wade fisherman, kayakers, windsurfers, and kite surfers.

Lover’s Key State Park
On this remote, secluded, Florida beach, you can bike through trails, rent canoes or kayaks, and watch the dolphins and manatees play. It features picnic tables, restrooms, boardwalks, fishing, nature trails, and a tram ride to the beach.

Dog Beach

You can enjoy the island life on the beaches of the world famous Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Sanibel features beaches that are great for swimming, fishing, windsurfing, and picnicking. Keep driving onto Captiva Island for large spans of sandy beach, beautiful water, gentle waves, and the most amazing sunsets you’ve ever witnessed.

Bowman’s Beach
This Florida beach has a serene setting, with vast areas of sand and unique shells. Located in Sanibel Island, Bowman’s beach features restrooms, BBQ grills, and picnic tables.

Your Florida vacation guide has just the thing for you to do. We’re sure you’ll be enjoying your Fort Myers Beach vacation rental so much, it may be hard to tear yourself away. However, if you want to take in the scenery, do some exploring and get a little exercise, biking around the islands is a great way to spend the day!

Sanibel & Captiva Islands have a charm that’s all their own. To keep the natural, island feel, they have some rules in place that add to the charm. There are no neon lights allowed, and nothing can be built taller than the tallest palm tree! There are a lot of “Mom & Pop” shops and restaurants, small art galleries, and an abundance of wildlife.

Sanibel has well-maintained bike paths that cover 22 miles of shopping districts and back roads, and they meander through friendly neighborhoods, beneath shady tree canopies, across wooden bridges and along quiet waterways.

Here are some trail suggestions:

• Rabbit Road Trail – This bike path runs behind homes and along a canal. If you go biking early in the morning, you’re likely to see plenty of the small gray marsh rabbits that give the road its name. Wading herons and alligator snouts are other common sightings along the quiet one-mile stretch between West Gulf Drive and Sanibel-Captiva Road.
• Wildlife Drive – Paved with shell and hard-packed sand, this biking route is a bit rough, especially for skinny tired bikes. It’s a 4-mile loop around J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, ending 3 miles north of the starting point on Sanibel-Captiva Road.
