This is the fourth installment of “Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach: A Renter’s Guide To the Islands”, which can be downloaded for FREE from our eBook library.
The area of Estero Island known as Mid Island generally spans from 4,000 to 6,000 Estero Blvd. This area of the island is a little quieter and more private than the areas near Times Square.
This area is also a popular launching point for boating, leaving from Mid-Island Marina. Or, many also like to take advantage of the dolphin tours from Mid- Island Water Sports.
Mid Island is one of the best Estero Island locations for dolphin tours. This is because of the close proximity to their natural feeding areas. You will be able to see them in their natural habitat, often just a few feet away from you. These dolphin tours begin on the Gulf side of the Beach, in front of the Sandpiper Gulf Resort and go as far as Bonita Springs.
In the Back Bay area, you’ll travel alongside Estero Island’s mangrove forests. This area is a haven for exotic plants and an abundance of wildlife such as dolphins, birds, fish and rays. There is a good chance you will come across pods of dolphins and occasionally, you may even see a manatee!
Some of the best places to stay on Mid-Island are:
- Seaside 108 – This beautiful condo is located at Seaside Resort. You will have two bedrooms and two baths, with a spectacular view of the the Gulf of Mexico from the living room and the master bedroom.
- Sea Breeze Cottage – This cottage is a lovely two bedroom, two bath home located in a quiet residential area just a block from the beach.
